Pima, AZ
The Roger Road Facility, located at 2600 W. Sweetwater Drive in Tucson, Arizona, is a 47-acre brownfield site formerly used as a Pima County Wastewater Reclamation Facility. Although decommissioned, the site still houses numerous structures and equipment, is fenced and gated with access via Sweetwater Drive and the I-10 Frontage Road and is serviced by major utilities. Technical assistance from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Brownfields and Land Revitalization (OBLR) allowed Vita Nuova to complete an analysis of site characteristics, environmental conditions, market conditions, and land use regulations that may impact future site reuse. Types of development of high interest to Pima County and community members included open space, recreational trails and associated facilities, and mixed-use development. The county and other key stakeholders have the next steps on how to collaborate with existing plans, integrate new ideas and concepts, and finalize preferred approaches to realize the overall community vision for this site.
